What is an International Photography Festival?

A photography festival is much more than a simple showcase of images. It’s a place of meeting, exchange, dialogue. It’s an opportunity to stop and observe the world through the eyes of others, to reflect, to be moved, to discover.

“Festival of Photography” was born with this spirit: to create a point of reference in Southern Italy for those who love photography and believe in its power to tell stories, denounce, and move people. It is an event dedicated to everyone – professional photographers, enthusiasts, curious individuals – and aims to valorize the photography that often remains on the margins of grand salons, but is no less powerful or significant.

WHY A PHOTOGRAPHY FESTIVAL

Photography festivals are multiplying around the world: Arles, Perpignan, Cortona, Photolux… because photography is today one of the most universal and direct languages. It serves to document wars and injustices, to narrate travels and cultures, to explore fashion, the environment, daily life. But it also serves – and above all – to move people emotionally.

A festival like this is a moment to gather around a common passion, to compare, learn, and be inspired. It’s an opportunity to break out of the solitude of taking photos and find oneself in a community that shares visions and sensibilities.

WHAT “PHOTOS ON THE ROAD AWARDS” OFFERS

The festival is structured into three main sections:

  • Photography Exhibitions: widespread exhibitions in the most suggestive locations of Tricase, to bring photography among the streets, among the people, where it can be seen, experienced, and discussed.

  • Talks: meetings with photographers, journalists, curators, and industry experts to discuss photography in all its forms, from narrative techniques to the most urgent social issues.

  • Workshops: practical laboratories to learn in the field, share experiences, and refine one’s visual language.

PHOTOGRAPHY IS SOCIAL

In a world bombarded with images, it is more necessary than ever to learn how to look. Photography is not just aesthetics, it’s responsibility. It shows reality, denounces pain, but also knows how to capture beauty, ignite hope, and build bridges.

“Photos on the Road Awards” is a festival made by photographers for photographers – and for all those who believe that behind every shot there is a story to be heard.
