REGOLAMENTO 2025

World Photo Intl. organizes the first edition of the “Photos on the Road Awards” photography competition.

PHOTOS ON THE ROAD
Telling the story of humanity through the city

The Photos on the Road photography competition invites photographers and enthusiasts of all levels to capture the essence of the city through the lens of the humanity that inhabits it. It’s an invitation to walk the streets, to be surprised by the details, the contradictions, and the hidden beauty woven into the urban fabric.

Participants are welcome to submit entries in all available categories. The overarching theme revolves around the city as a stage for contemporary life: everyday moments in both bustling metropolises and quiet villages, the contrasts between past and present, the fast-paced rhythms and moments of stillness, artistic glimpses and architectural geometries, and the sudden bursts of color that emerge between walls and asphalt.

We are looking for authentic and immediate images, capable of telling the story of the city and its narratives. Photographs that offer a human, poetic, or critical perspective on what unfolds along the streets: people, places, signs, and details that together shape the face of our time.

SECTION #1 | STREET PHOTOGRAPHY

Street photography is instinct, surprise, urban poetry. It’s the art of capturing the moment when life happens on the streets – in fleeting glances, sudden gestures, and light drawing geometries on concrete. In the heart of the city, between chaos and calm, the photographer becomes a silent witness: observing, blending in, shooting. Each image tells an invisible story, made of humanity, contrasts, and everyday beauty. That’s where the city reveals itself: raw, vibrant, unrepeatable.

SECTION #2 | LANDSCAPES

An open gaze on nature and the city. Landscape photography is the visual storytelling of a place, whether natural or urban. Be it quiet hills, boundless skies, empty roads, or crowded skylines, this genre captures the soul of the spaces around us. It invites us to pause, observe, and breathe in the beauty we often take for granted. A way to celebrate the harmony of nature or the geometries of the city, expressing through the lens emotion, atmosphere, and light.

SECTION #3 | PORTRAIT

The soul in a gaze. Portrait photography is the art of telling a person’s story through their face, their gestures, their posture. It goes beyond capturing an expression – it reads the body language, revealing what cannot be said in words: emotions, tensions, identity. A good portrait goes beneath the surface. It is a meeting between photographer and subject, a silent exchange that unveils the hidden humanity in every look.

SECTION #4 | TRAVEL

Travel photography is a genre that aims to document and narrate territories, cultures, people, customs, and stories of visited places. According to the Photographic Society of America, a travel photograph is an image that “expresses the feeling of a time and place, portrays a land, its people or a culture in its natural state, and has no geographical limitations.”

SECTION #5 | CINEMA & PHOTOGRAPHY

The silent eye on set. Photography is the art that most closely accompanies cinema, capturing its essence and immortalizing its faces, emotions, and atmospheres. With a single shot, it can freeze an emotion, a tension, a magic that would otherwise be lost. This is how images enter the collective imagination: one photo at a time.

SECTION #6 | POST-CONFLICT

Women on the Front Line
The female gaze in conflict zones. This section pays tribute to women working in war-torn areas – photojournalists, doctors, activists, witnesses. Through photography, we tell stories of survival, justice, reconciliation, and hope. In places marked by violence remain rubble, trauma, and invisible scars – but also the strength of those who, every day, seek a new normal. A brave, human, and necessary perspective.

All participants in the PHOTOS ON THE ROAD AWARDS will automatically be considered for the “BEST AUTHOR” award.

Il concorso inizia il 15 Aprile e termina il 15 Giugno 2025
